The Swannery – Our Pre-School Room
The Swannery is our vibrant pre-school room for children aged 3 to 5 years, led by our experienced Room Leader, Emily. It’s a place where children can build confidence, develop independence and get excited about learning as they prepare for their next big adventure — school.
Our approach combines child-led play with carefully planned activities, giving children the freedom to make choices, explore their interests and develop new skills. Children have access to a wide range of resources both indoors and outdoors, with plenty of opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences.
Learning, Exploring & Becoming Independent
At The Swannery, children are encouraged to:
-
Choose their own activities and access resources independently.
-
Develop practical skills, such as serving their own lunch and making healthy choices.
-
Enjoy mark-making activities that build the foundations for writing.
-
Recognise their name on their peg, water bottle and lunch place.
-
Enjoy our shared library book scheme and begin developing early phonics skills.
-
Explore interesting topics that encourage curiosity, conversation and listening skills.
-
Take part in a wide variety of creative and physical activities, both indoors and outdoors.
-
We support children across all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), ensuring they develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for their next steps.
-
Every child has a named Key Worker who knows them well, monitors their progress and sets individual targets throughout the year, ensuring they receive the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
Preparing for School
Preparing children for their next big adventure at school is an important part of life at The Swannery. Emily and the Swannery team work closely with parents and local schools to help make the transition as smooth and positive as possible.
We liaise with schools, share relevant information and, where possible, help arrange school visits, giving children the opportunity to become familiar with their new surroundings and meet the people who will be part of their next chapter.
Through this close partnership, encouragement and preparation, we help each child build the confidence, independence and excitement they need to take their next steps into school.
